Chapter 4 The Experimental University
Quote 1: (Critical Art Ensemble with Beatriz de Costa)
“In executing projects such as this one, we hope to contribute to an idea of public science by focusing on issues (such as food production) that are of direct interest to people, and so contribute to making the meaning of scientific initiatives immediate and concrete, as opposed to the vague abstractions they tend to be”.
Reaction:
This is so true we need to be more informed about what we take in our bodies. I personally didn’t know the different types of brands of milk, yogurt, eggs. From organic, fresh, nongmos, etc etc. But thanks for the social media we have today, yeah I might not read or do research to know about what I buy. There are Tiktoks of people educating us about what products are good to take in!
Quote 2: (Critical Art Ensemble with Beatriz de Costa)
“CAE’S relationship is very practical; we believe in using what you need. We have no fixed relationship to any particular piece of technology”.
Reaction:
Since this book was in 2004, we can imagine that technology was just involved and not a lot of people know how to use it. Today everyone is on their phones and it is how we get people involved or aware of things happening around the world. Like today the war with Russia and Ukraine, no one would know this is happening if they don’t watch the news on a tv. Thanks to social media and other sources of technology we are all aware of this.
Chapter 3 Ready To Wear
Quote 1: “This magic bag makes objects disappear. It’s ergonomically designed to be the ultimate shoplifting utensil”.
Reaction: Just seeing the side pictures in the book it really looks like they did not just shove an item in their clothes. If these pieces get around to the wrong people it would be crazy, everyone in the world would be wearing it and stealing everything they can.
Quote 2: “Dis-Armor is a video backpack that projects the eyes and voice of its wearer”.
Reaction: Just seeing the backpack is pretty cool, to be honest, but it is kinda scary. Just having a pair of eyes on the back of you. In a way, this is good for people who have social anxiety talking to people in general, and with that, they would only see their eyes.
