CHAPTER 3
“Our work is a small part of a global movement that is interested in derailing the kind of no-holds-barred capitalism that is starving the world’s poor and ruining the environment.”
This quote is about how the top 1% of the world basically makes all the decisions for the rest of the population not realizing they are destroying the lives of billions and killing the one planet we have.
“We use technology in whatever way we can, the way cops use batons and crooks use blackjacks.”
This quote stuck out to me because it sheds light on the overuse of technology in a person’s daily life and the fact police brutality is just as prominent in the world as cell phones are.
Refuge Wear City Interventions
This project stood out to me because of the wearable sleeping bag tent. The thought of making something as simple as a sleeping bag but also being a tent is revolutionary. This keeps homeless out of the elements but also gives them the space a traditional sleeping bag wouldn’t give them.
CHAPTER 4
“An anti-capitalist can be anywhere, as there is no space that does not speak the values of capital. All that is required is a project right for the space.”
This quote means that capitalism and its properties are always among us, even if we don’t notice it right away, but to get people to listen and see where capitalism has taken over all you need to do is open your eyes.
“Tactical media is the situational, ephemeral, and self-terminating. It encourages the use of any media that will engage a particular sociopolitical context in order to create molecular interventions and semiotic shocks that contribute to the negation of the rising intensity of authoritarian culture.”
Just how certain news stations cater to certain people and their beliefs so does the regular media, the way the world works it wants to keep you blind to the other side.
Tactical Media
This project stood out because of the simplicity of just holding a sign in the big city but it created a bigger impact than it was designed to. Meaning that the sign is just 4 words but those 4 words create a story that the world has succumbed to, any publicity is good publicity even if it's bad publicity.
Intervention 2
For this project, I was thinking of keeping with my marine life theme but instead of using fish, I would be the canvas. Maybe create an outfit from trash or wear soda can rings to show its destructive manner and then pose by the water.
