Final Intervention Project

For my third intervention and final project I have decided to write a song that supports and brings to light the problems minorities, people of color, and Black Americans have living in America. Growing up as a young Black man, living in the United States for the past 22 years I have either seen, been apart of, or heard about through my own people/social media/news reports of many different incidents where racial prejudice, against black people, occurred.

‘’The Black Lives Matter’’ movement is a movement that was founded in 2013 to help bring global awareness to black lives and how they are treated poorly in America. Although the movement is going through turmoil right now, it was still a pillar to help give confidence to others to start their own movements to spread awareness and speak their truths and justice.

For my final project I wrote a song to the instrumental beat of the famous song ‘’Feel it in The Air’’ by rapper Beanie Sigal. I called my song ‘’Opression in the Air’’

‘’Opression in the Air’’ by Owen Roberts,

‘’Man its crazy how they still doing us

dying everyday man and they still shooting us

and I wish we could be heard but they still muting us

time to stand up man up stop them from moving us

said its hard to be a black man

hard to live large when you got black skin

and they fear me ‘cus my black skin, truly sin, but we never lose, we refuse ‘cus we built to win

but its getting tuff all I see is blood and cuffs

how many lives we gonna lose that’s it enoughs enough

Ya’ll preaching change? I’m seeing all right thru ya bluff cut it out guns down spread the peace stop acting tuff

U got a badge, but you killing off innocent souls

Man them people all were human they had lives and goals

Now I’m gettin teary snot runnin down my nose as I think about how they doing us

Man I’m staying woke

Gotta move right they killin us all outta spite

Them boys starting to make doing wrong look like its right

But we never stopping cus all my people know is fight, picked up a mic, and starting talking man, give my people rights

Don’t know what else to do make them hear us talk

Got tired, stood up, so they could see us walk

I’m tired of seeing bodies layed up wit that white chalk, kill us in bulk, the system forcing us to lose hope

400 + years of this mess

Forget it, start a riot, shed some tears in this mess

& I’m starting to move real militant,

Sick of this mess, why can’t we just spread the peace sick of being oppressed

But that a talk the white man

Would love to never have because they love seeing black men and women on they ass

Even back in them days when we was picking grass, whips to ass, start to get me angry thinking bout our messed up past

Fast forward to today, no slavery yup Horay

Instead they killin us and recording it like its night and day

How many people brutally keep on getting slayed, I’m counting graves, praying up to God for them thru this life and I call it pain

Yea, its insane PTSD all up in my brain, in my domain, they killing us on cam like we still enslaved

And they taking bodies and they crossing out our names…
