The Interventionist Chapter 3 and 4

The Interventionist Chapter 3

Quote :

YOMANGO : “Like all other major brand names is not so much about selling concrete stuff, but more about promoting a lifestyle. In this case, the YOMANGO lifestyle consists of shoplifting as a form of social disobedience and direct action against multinational corporations.”

Center For Tactical Magic : "They appropriate the behaviors of the magician, the ninja, the artist, and the private investigator to make connections amidst an illusion of order, control, and restriction. In this way “magical thinking” drops its cloak of transcendental escapism and materializes as a social, political, and cultural counter perception - an alternative worldview that summons the creative and prophetic power of the multitude."

Project Description : YOMANGO Bag

The YOMANGO bag is a bag that is not designed to simply carry personal belongings, but to steal and hide items that do not belong to you. YOMANGO designed the bag in order to "make objects disappear" and makes going to the mall a "magical" experience. To most, the idea of this bag would be appalling as they would think it is immoral to steal, but in reality that is exactly what these major companies and corporations do to the world. They have no regard for the damages they cause to the environment, the workers, and our society. This bag does not promote stealing from people, but rather promotes self-liberation and freeing yourself from the shackles of consumerism at the hands of these large multinational corporations.

The Interventionist Chapter 4

CAE : "In executing projects such as this one, we hope to contribute to an idea of public science by focusing on issues (such as food production) that are of direct interest to people, and so contribute to making the meaning of scientific initiatives immediate and concrete, as opposed to the vague abstractions they tend to be."

Tana Hargest "Rather than telling people exactly what I think, the art experience becomes a platform for a dialogue, even if it’s solely an internal dialogue."

Project Description : Free Range Grain

Free Range Grain was a project conducted by the Critical Art Ensemble in 2004 in which they set up a laboratory to test foods for Genetically Modified Organisms. Visitors are able to bring their own foods in order to be tested for GMOs. Through this on site laboratory, they were able to refute the claims that the EU made on their borders against GMOs could be maintained. So what is actually in our food that we consume? When foods claim to be organic we merely take their word for it but we don't actually know to what extent our food is actually organic. This poses the question, "How organic are organic foods?" We live in a time where buzz words are thrown everywhere and the packaging is made to mislead the consumer, there is no true way to know exactly is in what we eat unless we test it ourselves.
