Chapter 3
Quotes:
Dis Amor 2004
“The voice of the wearer emits through a speaker in the back as well. In addition, the wearer can see and hear the person they are communicating with through a series of video cameras and microphones. In essence, Dis-Armor allows the wearer to face those whom they ordinarily could not and thus acts as a catalyst for social dialogue.”
The Yes Men 1999
“ This scandal was developed under the tactical tutelage of the Yes Men whose project was to simply use the web site to satirize the positions of the future president.”
Project descriptions:
One project I found to be very effective, efficient, as well as innovative would be the 2002, Body Architect Foyer D. The project consist of a large tent like shelter that is mobile. I feel that this project is actively trying to find solutions to an issue which is those in need of refuge. The mobile shelter is efficient because it can accommodate multiple people in need of shelter or a family. The tent also acts as clothing and is part of the Artist’s larger Refuge Wear series. All in all I found Lucy Orta’s work to be very useful to the community and environment.
Chapter 4
Quotes:
Free range grain
“In executing projects such as this one, we hope to contribute to an idea of public science by focusing on issues (such as food production) that are of direct interest to people, and so contribute to making the mean- ing of scientific initiatives immediate and concrete, as opposed to the vague abstractions they tend to be.”
Tana Hargest
“The main reason for using these techniques is that they put people at ease. Rather than telling people exactly what I think, the art experi- ence becomes a platform for a dia- logue, even if it’s solely an internal dialogue.”
Spruse
“The collec- tive is dedicated to deliberately avoiding hierarchies and thus their research moves fluidly between categories and materials. They use interviews, picked up ephemera and a form of wan- dering to capture the “urban” aspects of a city.”
Project descriptions
The free range grain project entails the use of an on-site laboratory to test foods. The collectives test the foods for GMO’s. I found the project very interesting and useful as it allows participants to interact. The project also allows the audience to actually gather knowledge of what is in the food they are consuming on a day to day basis . Participants are allowed to bring there own outside food to produce factual evidence about the food they consume daily. This project gives viewers actual insight and evidence of what they consume.
