The reason I choose to do a YouTube video about mental health  is because I feel like a lot of people all around struggle  and it isn’t talked about enough in society. The performance can seem to be activist art because I am showing how those with mental health feel like each other or everyday and express that it is important that we make a priority to talk about, show it’s okay to have these feelings and to seek help not be afraid. I choose to do the video in the bathroom because I feel like I myself when I’m alone start to overthink and look at all my imperfections, I feel like many can relate to do that.

The words I wrote on my body represent those who struggle with mental health feel like on a daily or every other day. Many people think that having mental illness is a choice when it isn’t. How people shouldn’t look down on those who are struggling rather help and try to comprehend them. The article “Memes Are Our Generation's Protest Art” I choose the quote

“At their core, all memes, regardless of their politics, are a tool for expression.” The other quote I choose from this article is “Memes can spread far more quickly than the songs or art projects of previous generations, and there’s such a low barrier to entry that anyone can make them; they can go viral in a matter of minutes.” These pairs of quotes helped me with my project in how any form of art can mean something meaningful and have an enormous impact in society whether it be good or bad.

In the book “Nomads” a quote by Ruben Ortiz Torres states “He has produces numerous photographs, painting, hats, trucks, and even leaf blowers as media to investigate signature materials and images of his cultural.” Another quote I found extremely helpful is one by “Ha-Ha” states “ each project is approached uniquely, through interaction and frequently collaboration with individuals and communities, as well as the constituent physical and historical properties of a locale.” Both of these two quotes were helpful because I’ve never realized how the things that we use or do on a daily basis could be formed into some type of art which is really cool.
