Black on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black 2020

Oil and cold wax on canvas

It was a great visit and I enjoyed and learned a lot of techniques and details that were used in the artwork. As I continued to walk around, I was inspired by all of the artwork and the story behind it. People are more positive about their futures when they are exposed to art. Art may be utilized to help disseminate an inspirational message, inspiring others to do great things in life. Art may serve as a means of communication amongst individuals, focusing on shared concerns for the advancement of humanity. The piece that really grabbed my attention is the Black on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black, on Black artwork. Dr. Ellis Williams said in her zoom meeting that she created a three dimensional artwork that portrays the story of a person’s  color by making her own paint and layering each unique color which is black. Her painting is really unique, especially her black on black artwork; when viewed from a distance, her painting appears very basic. The closer you look at the picture, the more layers you'll see, but this piece is best appreciated up close. According to John Berger's reading page #2, a quote that truly motivated me and was also relevant to the reading, and I chose it in my prior discussion is “A person may notice a particular image or piece of information because it corresponds to some particular interest he has”. Well, this quote relates to the artwork, it's a small piece of artwork but it means a lot, it's interesting with its textures and effort that’s on it, and carries a historical information that we still talk about and study it in schools. The story about the artwork is most likely talking about race, black womens and what they suffer. Black women are frequently victims of violence at school, home, work, and in their communities. Intimate relationship abuse and murder are all prevalent among black women. After suffering physical or sexual abuse, they are unfairly penalized in school and channeled into the criminal justice system. They are also subjected unfairly to racial profiling and police violence as a result of entrenched racism. We still suffer from race and as of now some people treat them or anyone badly and aggressively because of their skin color. Whatever race or country you are and or you are from, we all should be treated equally and kindly.

Cloudy Night 2020

Digital collage on metal

Cloudy night was the other and second artwork that I was inspired by, in addition to the nature that was used and the windy weather. This artwork has a story that is most likely related to the previous artwork I discussed which is the black people struggle. According to Susan Sontag “A photograph passes for incontrovertible proof that a given thing happened”. Photos, images, and videos are very important because they capture a lot of important moments that we don’t appreciate at that time but then we appreciate it later when you look at them. Black women struggled and suffered a lot. They didn’t have the rights to many things such as voting. They fighted for themselves until they had the right to do what they couldn’t do. Martin luther king Jr battled to repeal legislation that were discriminatory towards African Americans. In addition, he worked hard to ensure that all Americans had equal rights and he did win to make the country and the environment to live equally and peacefully. According to John Berger’s reading “One may remember or forget these messages but briefly one takes them in and for a moment they stimulate the imagination by way of either memory or expectations”. By looking at the cloudy night artwork you can imagine what they’ve suffered, for example, how the wind hits the trees and how windy and cloudy it is. Some people are interested to know the messages and stories behind those artwork because it was and still part of our history, a brief image that says what kind of environment that they used to live in, but as of nowaday, many people still judge you by your skin color, country, or language. That happened a lot when I came to the United States, especially when I went to school due to my skin color. Another example, one of my friends was treated aggressively because of her height, the other because of the pimple in her face. Racism is frequently associated with harmful actions/harassment. It does not, however, have to include aggressive or frightening behavior. Racism may be shown in people's behavior as much as in their attitudes. Racism is not always evident. For example, someone may review a list of employment candidates and decide not to interview those with race, look, the way he/she talks, and or where they come from. Racism is everywhere in the world and still exists. Everyone should be treated equally and live in a peaceful environment, we all deserve that.

This selfie I meant to do in black, as I was inspired by the Black on Black and the

cloudy night artwork and also the rest of the artwork.
